Artist's Description

This painting features Lt. Lee (Buddy) Archer ￿ top scoring pilot of the Tuskegee Airmen with 4 ￿official￿ air to air victories, unofficially 5+. He flew 169 combat missions, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Based at Ramitelli Airfield, Termoli, Italy, in late 1944 Archer is shown flying his Mustang P-51C escorting a squadron of B17f bombers.

Archer named his Mustang ￿INA the Macon Belle￿ and had all of his 302nd Fighter squadron aircraft painted with red tails to distinguish the all black pilots that flew them. His squadron belonged to the 15th Air Force, 332nd Fighter Group. The squadron was known to have never lost an escorted bomber in their care.

My favoured medium is acrylic. I am a member of the Australian...
