On February 18th 1944 Harry Markby Typhoon pilot of 174 squadron RAAF, formed part of the support for Operation Jericho. When 14 De Havilland Mosquitoes bombed the Amiens prison in France in an attempt to aid the escape of French resistance fighters imprisoned there.
London born in 1943, I spent most of my working life in the aviation industry. As Senior Illustrator at Rolls-Royce, UK, I was responsible for creating many of the air brush colour cutaways of the aero engines designed and built by the company. Apart from aviation I have always been a “car nut”, going to race meetings at Brands Hatch and Silverstone in the UK where I managed to pick up many commissions, not only cars, but landscapes too. I have been heavily influenced by the foremost aviation artist, the late Frank Wootton OBE, FAGAvA, and like him I try to represent aircraft in action with the perception of clouds and atmosphere as seen from the pilot’s point of view.
